Households across Australia that install a small scale renewable energy system (such as Solar) or solar hot water systems may be able to receive a benefit under the Small-scale Renewable Energy Scheme (SRES) to help with the purchase cost.
Installing an eligible system allows the creation of small-scale technology certificates (STCs), an electronic form of currency with a value that can be redeemed by selling or assigning them, usually as an upfront discount.
Small-scale technology certificates (STCs) are created for eligible systems. The number of certificates created is based on the amount of renewable electricity the system produces or the amount of electricity consumption it reduces, and the climate region where it’s installed. Over 95% of the Solar Systems that HCB Solar installs get these rebates.
RENEWABLE ENERGY SYSTEMS
There are three types of eligible renewable energy systems:
- solar power (photovoltaic or PV)
- wind power (turbine)
- hydro (water) power
HOT WATER SYSTEMS
Hot water systems which reduce electricity consumption may be eligible for STCs. There are two types of eligible systems:
- solar hot water
- heat pump hot water.
SELLING OR ASSIGNING THE SMALL-SCALE TECHNOLOGY CERTIFICATES (STCS)
When you purchase a solar energy system or solar hot water system you have two options for selling the STCs:
- Assigning them to an agent, usually the system installer, in exchange for a discount or delayed cash payment (an upfront discount is what happens for over 95% of solar installs done by HCB Solar); or
- Selling the certificates themselves, either:othrough the open STCs market – pricing subject to market forces;
WHO CAN INSTALL AND CONNECT MY SOLAR SYSTEM?
For insurance and rebate purposes it is crucial to only use accredited electricians or solar panel installers. This will prevent issues associated with obtaining the rebate and ensures that your system is correctly set up to industry standards. HCB Solar are fully CEC (Clean Energy Council) accredited Solar Designers and Installers as well as Licensed Electricians.
Remember, a Solar System is an electrical installation and you want a local, licensed electrician to design, install and maintain your solar system.
Contact HCB Solar on 02 4040 4307 to help you work out what size solar system matches your current electricity bill and to provide a quote with this upfront discount.
